Why is it important to enhance sustainability with LCAs?

LCAs provide scientifically robust, quantifiable environmental insights, enabling better decision-making, regulatory alignment, credibility in communication, and long-term footprint reduction.

How can LCAs help with regulations?

LCAs support compliance with CSRD, PEF, Green Claims, GCD, ESPR, DPP, PPWR, EPR and other frameworks requiring product-level impact assessment and evidence-backed claims.

What’s the difference between an LCA and a carbon footprint?

A carbon footprint focuses solely on climate change (CO₂e).
An LCA covers multiple environmental impact categories (e.g., water, land use, toxicity, resource depletion). LCAs provide a much richer and more complete environmental profile.

How can Pilario adapt to my sustainability needs?

Pilario scales from basic product footprints to large-scale enterprise modelling, scenario analysis, and customisable reporting enabling growth regardless of maturity level.

Product & Methodology

What datasets and methodologies does Pilario support?

Pilario supports PEF, EN15804, ISO 14040, ISO 14044, and ISO 14067 methodologies. Additional methodologies can be added on request. All relevant impact categories are included in the tool.

Does the tool include the notion of Functional Unit?

Yes. Pilario incorporates functional units directly into its workflow and ensures all results scale accordingly.

Can Pilario assemble components (product + primary/secondary packaging + accessories)?

Yes. A clear distinction can be made between product, primary packaging, and secondary packaging, enabling accurate modelling of final SKUs.

Is Pilario coherent with SimaPro results?

Pilario’s calculation engine is built on models generated in our proprietary software RangeLCA, a modelling solution comparable to SimaPro. As a result, the modelling logic and computed results are coherent with analyses performed in tools like SimaPro.
Companies already using SimaPro can also integrate RangeLCA to create internal models and expose them to non-LCA experts through Pilario.

Can Pilario support both expert and non-expert users?

Yes. User roles (viewer, editor, admin, custom roles) allow organisations to democratise LCA and adapt access based on expertise. Futhermore, Pilario offers comprehensive onboarding, live training sessions, knowledge base resources, 24/7 AI-powered assistant and dedicated Customer Success and Account Managers.

Can Pilario run quick scenarios?

Yes. The scenario engine enables rapid changes to inputs (mass, materials, energy mix, transport, etc.) for fast impact comparison.

Can the results be claimed to be ISO 14040/44/67 compliant?

Yes. All methodologies used in Pilario follow the corresponding ISO standards for LCA and carbon footprinting.

Integrations, Data & Reporting

Can I integrate primary data from my own supply chain or suppliers?

Yes. You can import primary data directly into models via data uploads, APIs, or custom fields. Supplier-specific data can also be integrated.

What are the possible ways of creating a product in Pilario? / What data integration possibilities exist?

Products can be created:
- Manually via the UI
- Through batch upload (Excel/CSV)
- Through API integration
- Through SFTP pipelines
- Via synchronized ERP/PLM connections
- By cloning existing products or using templates

Do you have batch upload capabilities?

Yes. The platform supports batch uploads, allowing you to create or update large sets of data at once using Excel or CSV files. It also offers an SFTP option for automated, and recurring data transfers.

Are you able to integrate with my ERP? If so, how?

Yes. Pilario integrates with most ERP systems through REST API, SFTP pipelines, custom field mapping, external IDs to match ERP product codes

How is the link maintained between my product in Pilario and in my ERP?

The link is maintained through ExternalID, a field dedicated to storing your internal product reference.

Can I retrieve results directly in my ERP?

Yes. Results can be accessed through the REST API, allowing your ERP to pull the latest calculations whenever needed.

Can Pilario integrate with PowerBI?

Yes. PowerBI can connect to Pilario by using the available OpenAPI endpoints to pull data directly into dashboards or through exported datasets.

If I’m missing data for a product in my ERP, can Pilario provide averages so that an LCA can still be computed?

Yes. Pilario includes industry average data that can be used when primary data is not available.

How often are integrated datasets and methodologies updated?

Datasets and methodologies are updated when new official versions are released, to ensure alignment with the latest standards and scientific updates.

What kind of reporting can I generate with Pilario?

Pilario allows you to generate downloadable written reports for any product using predefined or custom templates. Reports can be customised to support different levels of decision making and commercial purposes (e.g. short one pager reports, longer sustainability reports, etc). Product averages can be created in the platform and downloaded in the reports for direct comparisons.

Can the tool import/export data in standard formats (Office 365)?

Yes. Export formats include Excel and Word. Imports are available through Excel/CSV, helping you maintain smooth data exchange with existing systems.

How can I share Pilario results with stakeholders or for public communication?

Results can be shared via:
- Exported reports (Excel/Word)
- API-connected dashboards
- Scenario comparisons
- Shareable summaries for external communication
- Compliance-ready documentation

Is there a sandbox environment?

Yes. A sandbox environment can be made available on request, allowing you to test features, explore workflows, and validate integrations without affecting live data.

Is there a user forum?

Pilario offers an actively maintained knowledge base that provides guidance, best practices, and troubleshooting material. When further help is needed, customer support is available to address any outstanding questions.

Security, IT & Compliance

How often are security assessments or penetration tests conducted?

Formal penetration tests are performed every 6 months, combined with continuous testing through Intigriti’s bug bounty program. Findings are remediated following ISO/IEC 27001 processes.

How are vulnerabilities identified and patched?

According to ISMS.B.11, which defines vulnerability management, prioritisation, and remediation timelines.

How is data encrypted in transit and at rest?

Data is encrypted in transit using SSL/TLS (HTTPS) and encrypted at rest through the security mechanisms provided by our AWS cloud infrastructure.

Does authentication support SSO and MFA?

Yes. Pilario supports SSO, MFA, and integrations with SAML, OAuth2, OpenID Connect (EntraID, Google, LinkedIn, Ping, etc.)

Can access permissions be customised based on roles?

Access permissions can be customised through role-based controls, allowing you to tailor user rights as needed.

Does the application provide audit logs?

The application also provides comprehensive audit logs to track key actions and maintain full traceability.

What APIs and integration capabilities does Pilario offer?

Pilario provides a RESTful API following the OpenAPI specification, enabling direct data exchange with external systems. It also supports optional SFTP integration for automated and secure file-based workflows.

Which browsers are supported?

Pilario supports the latest stable versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge (Chromium).

Where is the data center located?

Pilario is hosted in AWS Europe (Ireland) – eu-west-1, providing strong regional resilience and compliance with European data-handling requirements.

How is server supervision handled? Is it 24/7?

Yes. The platform is continuously, with automated systems tracking performance and availability through the Pilario status page.

Once data is extracted, how can I re-establish the link between datasets?

Pilario provides both internal IDs and external (client-owned) IDs as well as custom fields to support clear data mapping.

Does the solution support SAML SSO, Google OpenID, or Ping?

Yes. The system supports all three through standard identity protocols, allowing seamless authentication integration with existing enterprise setups.
